Three steps to a healthier 2016

Happy New Year

It's a new year and many of you will be thinking about healthier resolutions. Here are some ideas to make 2016 a healthy (and happy!) one.

1. Step away from the sugar

Step away from the sugar - Healthier 2016

Sugar is hitting the headlines as the substance we need to cut down on if we are to live healthier lives and reduce our risk of disease. Hidden sugars are found in many of the foods and drinks we consume on a daily basis and worryingly one in three of us has high blood sugar. Eating too much sugar causes insulin levels to rapidly rise and fall, putting a strain on your metabolism and resulting in cravings for more sugary foods and carbohydrates and energy dips throughout the day.

Are you concerned about your sugar intake?

You can make simple changes such as swapping fizzy drinks and fruit juices for water. One research study found a glass of orange juice contained more sugar than 3.5 doughnuts and more than a can of coke. You could also try adding more chromium to your diet. Chromium helps regulate the production of insulin, the hormone responsible for blood sugar levels. Pharma Nord's new Bio-Gluco Control helps to control your blood sugar levels, reduce cravings for sugary foods and improve energy levels.

2. Focus on your omegas

Focus on your omegas - Healthier 2016

Increasing your omega 3 intake can help safeguard against brain and behavioural problems. This includes mood and learning ability, heart and circulatory disease, pain and inflammation, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, asthma, skin disorders and all manner of chronic illnesses. Foods rich in omega 3 include oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, herring, trout and fresh tuna, flaxseed and walnuts.

Choosing a supplement?

Look for the kind with oil from the flesh of the fish rather than the liver. Oil from the liver has a greater risk of containing environmental impurities. Pharma Nord's Bio-Fish Oil contains pure and natural fish oil derived from the flesh of deep ocean fish.  Furthermore, it has the same ratio of fatty acids (EPA and DHA) as found in nature.

3. Check your deficiencies

Check your deficiencies - Healthier 2016

Have you ever had your vitamin D levels tested?

Up to 50 percent of UK adults are thought to be deficient in this 'sunshine' vitamin. This is due to lack of strong sun exposure. There is a link between Vitamin D deficiency and poor immune health. It has also been linked to greater susceptibility to colds and flu, poor bone health and low mood. Consequently, home testing kits are available or speak to your GP for advice. For easier absorption choose Vitamin D3 as it is identical to the form produced naturally in the skin. Bio-Vitamin D3 are tiny, easy-to-swallow pearls of vitamin D3 dissolved in cold-pressed, organic olive oil.
