    Magnesium supports your psychological well-being




     
     

    It is important to get enough magnesium because the mineral contributes to normal psychological functions. This was confirmed in a recent scientific study.

    Only very few people would be able to accurately define “normal psychological functioning”. Briefly speaking, it’s the ability to understand and interact with your surroundings, to be able to think logically and solve problems, to communicate effectively with others, and to control your behaviour and handle stress and challenging emotions. In other words, this is essential for your mental well-being, and that makes magnesium important because this mineral contributes to normal psychological functions.

    Good for your mental balance

    The link between magnesium and psychological functions has been known for ages but was confirmed recently in a study1 that is published in Frontiers in Public Health. The study included 13,197 American men and women and compared the participants’ magnesium levels in the body with their psychological well-being. The scientists found a positive relationship and observed that those with the highest magnesium levels were most likely to be psychologically in balance.

    Coffee and alcohol may increase your needs

    What the researchers specifically used was a measuring method called “magnesium depletion score” (MDS), which determines the degree of magnesium depletion in an individual. Certain things like excessive intake of coffee or alcohol can increase the need for magnesium, and that is why some people may be more likely to lack this mineral. It is also known that certain drugs for lowering stomach acid production can increase the need for magnesium.  

    Magnesium supplement with documented absorption

    It is important to get plenty of magnesium from your daily diet by eating good magnesium sources like leafy greens, nuts and seeds, wholegrains, fish, and dark chocolate.
