CORAL study – Can Coenzyme Q10 reduce heart failure and reduce ejection fraction?
-Professor John Cleland, University of Hull
University of Bristol launches new study of coenzyme Q10’s role in heart failure.
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) has shown promising results in chronic heart failure treatment, particularly with the Q-SYMBIO study, which demonstrated a significant 43% reduction in mortality. This result stands out in the context of modern heart failure therapies.
The upcoming CORAL study aims to further investigate CoQ10’s therapeutic value, potentially solidifying its role in future heart failure treatment guidelines.
The CORAL study has received a £2 million grant from the Department of Health and Social Care and will investigate Coenzyme Q10’s possible contribution to reaching the goal of the British Society for Heart Failure of reducing heart failure mortality by 25% over the next 25 years.
Can intervention with Q10 and selenium slow down the ageing process, prevent cardiovascular disease, and perhaps improve quality of life
-Professor Urban Alehagen, Linköping University
One of Sweden’s leading cardiologists and the author of more than 100 cardiology studies and research papers. Professor Alehagen headed the KiSel-10 study that found a positive clinical effect on cardiovascular disease (“risk reduction >50%”) in Swedish seniors.
More than 30 follow-up studies have been conducted in its wake and all point to a positive impact of selenium and coenzyme Q10 on ageing and quality of life.

He was appointed Prof. at the University of Hull and, in 2013, the National Heart & Lung Institute, Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals, Imperial College London. He founded the European Journal of Heart Failure. He is Past-Chair of the ESC Working Group on heart
failure and British Society for Heart Failure

About Dr. Urban Alehagen
Dr Urban Alehagen is a Professor in Cardiology at the University of Linkoping, Sweden. He is a specialist in internal medicine, cardiology, and odontology.
He is the principal investigator for the Kisel-10 study - where the effects of supplementation with selenium and coenzyme Q10 has been studied. First demonstrating the clinical positive effects and then investigating the effects on oxidative stress and inflammation by the supplementation. The results are reported and published.
