Magnesium Supplements can reduce blood pressure

Why does it seem that in today's world we have more people suffering from high or low blood pressure? If this is the case this blog entry may be of interest. Several studies done by British researchers have shown that supplements of magnesium effectively lower blood pressure. The effect seems to increase with higher intake. Elevated blood pressure (hypertension) is a major risk factor of mortality from cardiovascular and renal disease but according to British researchers, magnesium supplements may effectively reduce both upper (systolic) and lower (diastolic) blood pressure. In their paper, which is published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the scientists state that they have observed small but clinically significant reductions, and it appears that the effect of magnesium increased with a higher intake. Some experts consider magnesium a heavily undervalued nutrient. In Europe Cardiovascular disease cause close to fifty per cent of deaths. According to Swedish research published this year in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, magnesium may also reduce a person's stroke risk. For every 100 mg increase in daily intake of the nutrient, a 9 per cent risk reduction was observed. Magnesium supplements may be useful as part of the overall strategy for reducing blood pressure. Magnesium is also vital for bone health and stress tolerance, just like it can counteract leg cramps and headaches. For some help on good magnesium sources try adding more green leafy vegetables, nuts, and pumpkin seeds into your diet. It may also be taken in the form of a supplement like Bio-Magnesium that contains 3 different magnesium sources for optimal bio-avaialbility of the nutrient.
