Back to School Supplies: Vitamins for kids

September is upon us and that means it's time to prepare our young ones and kit them out with their back to school supplies. Making sure they are geared up – both mentally and physically - for a new school year. Pharma Nord has listed some vitamins for kids with some tips below.

Time to concentrate  BIOmega 3 Kids

Research has shown that omega 3 fatty acids are important for child brain development and concentration. They are vital building blocks of the brain, eyes and nervous system. Studies have found that pregnant mums who eat seafood have babies with better learning ability and improved mood and behaviour. Once born, the brain grows in size and develops, so infants and children continue to require these crucial omega 3 fats.

Did you know? It's the DHA in fish oil that awards the gift of vision and is important for eye-brain co-ordination and reading skills.

If choosing a supplement, opt for one containing the oil from the flesh of the fish as it's purer. Pharma Nord's Omega 3 for Kids is a supplement designed especially for children, with a natural lemon flavour. The capsules can be chewed or the contents squeezed onto a spoon to make consumption easier.

    Immune boosterVitamin D3 400IU

When children mix with other youngsters they are exposed to all manner of bugs. By strengthening the immune system, you can help to protect against frequent colds and flu. One of the best immune boosting nutrients is vitamin D. The challenge is that only 10% of our vitamin D requirement typically comes from food – the rest must be obtained from the sunshine or a supplement.  Many of us are deficient in vitamin D, particularly during the winter months. If looking for a supplement, choose vitamin D3 dissolved in oil-based capsules, as they are more easily absorbed by our bodies.

Pharma Nord's Vitamin D3 Supplements (cholecalciferol) is identical to the form produced naturally in the skin.

    Healthy lunch box

Processed foods and snacks can be high in sugar, which can lead to energy highs and lows throughout the day, affecting concentration. Stick to snacks that help to keep blood sugar at bay, like low GI oatcakes. Remember to include fruit and vegetables too. Try to avoid fruit juice or fizzy drinks as they can be high in hidden sugars.
