Coconut Oil | Heat-stable saturated fat

    Related term: coconut oil

Coconut oil is a heat-stable, vegetable saturated fat that does not form trans fatty acids. It contains most medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), is easily digested and does not or only to a limited extent form fat in the body. Below 25 degrees C., the oil is solid and is referred to as coconut fat.

Coconut oil does not have an E number as it is not normally an excipient but a foodstuff, although in the context of food supplements it can act as an excipient.

Coconut oil is also used externally on the skin and mucous membranes.
