Pycnogenol Supplements

Pycnogenol is nature's most versatile supplement, but many people wonder what Pycnogenol is used for. Scientific research shows that there are many Pycnogenol benefits, and the product can help to improve heart health and circulation, joint health, seasonal itchy eyes and runny nose, glucose control, menstrual discomfort, and skin issues!

But, what does Pycnogenol do? Pycnogenol supplements demonstrate antioxidant effects may stimulate the immune system and potentially improve blood flow in research. The following areas of health have been studied in over 40 years of Pycnogenol research: asthma, allergies, blood pressure, diabetes, endometriosis, erectile dysfunction, muscles soreness, and osteoarthritis.

  • Each tablet contains 40mg of Pycnogenol maritime pine bark extract in an easily absorbed form

Nature's most versatile supplement

Pycnogenol is a unique plant extract containing French maritime bark (Pinus pinaster), which is grown in sustainable French forests. It contains potent antioxidants that protect the cells from oxidative damage caused by free radicals and is a natural source of proanthocyanidins.

Free radicals are substances created by our own metabolism, as well as by environmental factors — such as smoking, air pollution and UV light exposure. In excess, free radicals may be harmful in the body and are linked to many degenerative diseases. Antioxidants such as those found in Pycnogenol may be beneficial in countering free radical effects.

As we’ve seen, there are several Pycnogenol benefits. Pycnogenol supplements contain potent antioxidants, with antioxidant activity approximately twenty times that of vitamin C. Because of the chemical structure of Pycnogenol, it can be incorporated into and protect both the aqueous (cytoplasmic) and lipid (cell membrane) phases of cells from damage by free radicals. It also promotes increased availability of vitamin C within the body.

Studies demonstrate that Pycnogenol antioxidants are particularly effective for maintaining the healthy functioning of blood vessels and the eyes, and can help to support a normal response by the body to an allergic or inflammatory challenge. Pycnogenol tablets may also contribute to healthy skin by maintaining its strength, flexibility and suppleness to combat the ageing process.

We recommend the following...

First week: 2 tablets twice per day (total of 4 tablets a day)

Thereafter: 1 tablet twice per day (total of 2 tablets a day)

Or as directed by a physician.

Note: Do not chew the tablets; swallow them whole.

Our Pycnogenol supplements are also suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

There are no adverse effects or contra-indications reported regarding taking Pycnogenol supplements from Pharma Nord.

Relative to the food we eat, the size of individual nutrients are actually incredibly small. As a result, we need to use units other than grammes (g) to describe them. Here's what the common units for nutrients are:

Grammes (G)- often used to describe nutritional powders. Most teaspoons of powder weigh approximately 5g.

Milligrams (Mg)- 1000mg is equal to 1g

Micrograms (Mcg or μg)- 1000μg is equal to 1mg

International Units (IU)- Slightly more complex than milligrams (mg) and micrograms (μg), International Units measure differently from nutrient to nutrient. The most common nutrients that are likely to be measured in IU are vitamins D, E and A.

  • Vitamin D: 1 IU is the equivalent of 0.025 μg of D2 or D3
  • Vitamin A: 1 IU is the equivalent of 0.3 mcg retinol
  • Beta-carotene (provitamin A): 1 IU is the equivalent of 0.6 μg of beta carotene
  • Vitamin E: 1 IU is the equivalent of 0.67 mg d-alpha-tocopherol

Carrie - 19th October 2016:

I have taken Bio Pycnogenol for several years now and did not have a day off sick from work for over 7 years. I had a break from the Bio Pycnogenol earlier this year and was off twice with flu virus infections between January and March. Coincidence??? I was left with some allergy symptoms and advised by a GP to take an over the counter antihistamine which I did for a couple of months. Then I went back on the Bio Pycnogenol a few months ago and no longer need the antihistamine. My general health has improved again and I look forward to a sickness free work record up to my retirement.

Richard Lewis - 4th August 2016:

This product is truly remarkable. And it’s the real thing! Pycnogenol, to be authentic, has to come from French maritime pine trees; and Pharma Nord’s Pycnogenol does. So you can count on it.

Many clinical studies have been carried out on this natural product. Pycnogenol has been found to be beneficial as a powerful prophylactic against many diseases: heart disease and cardiovascular problems among them, and about sixty other diseases as well.

Pycnogenol is a powerful antioxidant, so it protects cells from free radical damage. It improves the elasticity of blood vessels, prevents stickiness in the blood; and strengthens the walls of blood vessels; so it improves blood circulation.

But more than this, it is good for the eyes, it works against ageing, helps with hay fever and allergies; it is beneficial for asthma sufferers; it helps protect against arthritis, and much more besides. Apparently, there are studies underway on brain function too. Pycnogenol is thought to help ward off Alzheimer’s disease.

So much can be said in Pycnogenol’s favour. I have been taking this supplement from Pharma Nord for quite some time; and I can honestly say that I feel it has helped me greatly. I attribute the excellent recovery I have made from a heart attack some seven years ago in no small part due to Pycnogenol. Once I started taking this supplement, I noticed the difference in a short time.

I highly recommend this product.

Kate - 1st March 2016:

I have suffered with hay fever for quite a few years, but it seemed to be getting worse. As well as my eyes feeling itchy and the constant urge to sneeze, my head felt really cloudy and it affected my concentration.

A colleague told me about a natural supplement called Bio-Pycnogenol and said it had really helped her with her symptoms. I started taking it about six weeks before the start of the hay fever season last year and couldn't quite believe the results.

I rarely experienced the hay fever symptoms I had the previous year and no longer had to rely on anti-histamines. I also have a cat allergy which was difficult as I have a cat! I've noticed that Bio-Pycnogenol has helped with this too.

M. Periklis - 6th June 2012:

I first heard of this from my sister in law who suffered a mild stroke and it affected one of her eye muscles (orbis ocularis, the large muscle that surrounds the eye). It suffered some form of degeneration and desperate to find a natural remedy, she discovered pycnogenols and decided to give it a try. A year later she had a check up, and much to the disbelief amazement of her ophthalmologist, the muscle had rejuvenated to the point of near-perfect health, something he says he has never seen before. Also, her blood pressure and cholesterol levels had fallen dramatically, and this is the only supplement she takes.
I took it a week before a flight, and for a first time didn't get puffy ankles.
Definitely a very potent remedy.

Mike - 7th February 2012:

I'm also impressed by Pycnogenol, it seems to offset some of the adverse symptoms when using Ramipril . I have Haemochromatosis which is an iron overload condition. Iron in excess causes free radical promotion, Pycnogenol can help offset these damaging effects being a powerful anti-oxidant.

Marie Wilson, Gateshead - 15th September 2011:

I love cats and my best friend has eight of them, but I never touched them and sat on dining room chairs rather than the sofa when I visited to avoid coming into contact with cat hair.

Despite that I needed my inhaler three or four times whenever I visited and I'd still leave wheezy and puffy eyed.

Thankfully, my mum told me about Pycnogenol, which is a French pine bark extract that could help to ease asthma and allergies. I decided to give it a try and started taking the capsules twice a day.

The next time I visited my friend two weeks later I only had to use my inhaler once, which was a noticeable improvement.

I was still taking the supplement two months later and by then I could let the cats jump on my lap without feeling any ill effects.

Now almost a year later, I'm even contemplating getting my own cat!
