Vitamin K2

Vitamin K2 supplements from Pharma Nord are dissolved in a cold-pressed olive oil suspension in small, easy-to-swallow “pearls” of soft gelatine.

Vitamin K2 is a fat-soluble vitamin which is important for the maintenance of normal bone health, cardiovascular health and normal blood clotting. Being active in the body for longer than vitamin K1;  vitamin K2 is able to reach more tissue and activate proteins that have a role in keeping calcium mobile.

As Vitamin K is so important for bone health it makes sense to take a vitamin K2 supplement as part of your daily supplementation programme especially if you are postmenopausal.

Vitamin K2 Benefits

Vitamin K2 is a powerful nutrient beneficial in activating proteins crucial in calcium metabolism and circulatory and heart health. The main advantage of vitamin K is to regulate the calcification of bones, kidneys, and blood vessels, which may help prevent heart disease.

Why Pharma Nord Vitamin K2?

  • K-Pearls is manufactured to pharmaceutical standards
  • Each capsule contains 75mcg of vitamin K2 MK7
  • Easy to swallow pearls and highly bioavailable!
  • Highly bioactive 100% 'trans' isomer form
  • K2 form with published safety documentation
  • Oil capsules for maximum digestive absorption
  • Gluten Free | Lactose Free | Soy Free | Yeast Free | Sugar Free

Vitamin K2 is available in several forms such as menaquinone-4 (MK-4) and menaquinone-7 (MK-7).

Pharma Nord K-Pearls
Our vitamin K2 supplement uses vitamin K2 MK7, which retains longer within the body, reaches more bodily tissues and has greater metabolic action.

K-Pearls is derived from natural plant materials via a patented organic process. This results in a 100% trans (the biologically active MK7 form), whereas vitamin K2 MK7 produced via fermentation processes can be a mix of both trans and the inactive cis forms.

Vitamin K2 comes in small and easy to swallow oil capsules so that supplementation includes the necessary fats for improved absorption.

Vitamin K2 MK7 is the most effective and easily absorbed form

Vitamin K2 has an essential role in keeping calcium 'mobile' in the body (and it does this by activating various proteins). Vitamin K dependent proteins can help ensure ideal calcium placement in the body (into bones, not into blood vessels). Calcium deposited into bones can contribute to bone health and structure, whereas calcium deposited into blood vessels can contribute to calcification - a hardening of the arteries associated with various cardiovascular health issues.

Vitamin K2 benefits anyone who wants to help take care of their bone and circulatory health, while most of us require extra K2 for optimum health. Nutritional experts suggest that a significant proportion of the UK population may have insufficient levels of vitamin K2. K2 levels required to maintain normal blood clotting may not be enough to maintain healthy bone or blood vessels.

Vitamin K deficiency can result from poor diet, alcoholism, malabsorption disorders, ageing, and certain medicines. In particular, statins may deplete the levels of vitamin K2. Inadequate vitamin K2 is associated with osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease (tissue calcification), and abnormal blood clotting.

We recommend 1-2 capsules per day, or as directed by a physician.

People prescribed blood thinning medications such as warfarin should seek medical advice before taking a vitamin K2 supplement.

Dose and Dosage:

Relative to the food we eat, the size of individual nutrients are actually incredibly small. As a result, we need to use units other than grammes (g) to describe them. Here’s what the common units for nutrients are:

Grammes (G)- often used to describe nutritional powders. Most teaspoons of powder weigh approximately 5g.

Milligrams (Mg)- 1000mg is equal to 1g

Micrograms (Mcg or μg)- 1000μg is equal to 1mg

International Units (IU)- Slightly more complex than milligrams (mg) and micrograms (μg), International Units measure differently from nutrient to nutrient. The most common nutrients that are likely to be measured in IU are vitamins D, E and A.

  • Vitamin D: 1 IU is the equivalent of 0.025 μg of D2 or D3
  • Vitamin A: 1 IU is the equivalent of 0.3 mcg retinol
  • Beta-carotene (provitamin A): 1 IU is the equivalent of 0.6 μg of beta carotene
  • Vitamin E: 1 IU is the equivalent of 0.67 mg d-alpha-tocopherol
