Maryon Stewart is a renowned healthcare expert who is referred to as the Pioneer of the Natural Menopause Movement. Using her many years of knowledge and expertise, Maryon guides us through the menopause symptom, vaginal dryness.
Vaginal dryness is one of the most common symptoms of the menopause but it remains something of a well-kept secret. Women tend not to talk about it even to their friends, and yet over 50% of women in all the studies which Maryon has carried out say it is something they have suffered from.
What causes vaginal dryness?
There are several reasons why the vagina can become dry, uncomfortable and even painful. Typically, mucous membranes (specialized tissues) produce moisture in various parts of the body, including our eyes, mouth and intimate regions. Should the mucous membranes become damaged, they lose the ability to produce moisture and as a consequence, dryness takes over.
Common triggers for vaginal dryness include the menopause as well as certain medications (such as contraceptive pills or antidepressants).

So as well as making dietary changes, Maryon has recommended to her clients for many years a product called Omega 7 SBA24, that is made from sea buckthorn oil, using both the seed and the berry.
"The clinical trials show that it effectively switches the factory lights back on, so you get the mucus cells being produced and so the elasticity, and it also nourishes the environment so that the vagina feels comfortable and that's the most important thing. The trials actually last for about 12 weeks, so don't expect magic, you have to persist with it, but it has been shown to be really workable and the good thing is the clinical trial also shows that it helps with dry eyes and dry mouth."
