Daily Pills 'Can Cut Your Risk of Heart Disease in Half'

In today's Daily Express and Daily Mail an article was featured regarding a new study called KiSel-10, that showed a combination of Selenium and Co-enzyme Q10 significantly reduced cardiovascular deaths in older people. They forgot to mention that the products used in KiSel-10 were ours! Pharma Nord's Bio Quinone Q10 and SelenoPrecise.

A study of 443 healthy men and women aged 70 to 88 was carried out by researchers over 5 years. They found that those given daily supplements of Pharma Nord SelenoPrecise and Bio Quinone Q10 more than halved their risk of dying of heart disease. As well as helping to beat the illness the tablets, which cost just £1.10 a day, were also found to help the hearts of test subjects work more efficiently.

    Double Action

Selenium and coenzyme Q10 work synergistically to improve cardiovascular health. The research, by scientists from Linkoping University and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, could have major implications in the UK, where heart disease kills 94,000 people every year.

    Earlier Research

Earlier studies have suggested a potential role for both selenium and coenzyme Q10 in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. A study in Finland showed an increased risk of cardiovascular death in patients with low selenium, while several studies have demonstrated low myocardial levels of coenzyme Q10 in patients with cardiomyopathy (heart muscle disease). The recent Swedish study warrants further investigation of the natural substances as a useful preventative strategy for lowering the risk of cardiovascular deaths among ageing people.
